For their third project together in fourteen years, these longtime clients asked us to gut and rebuild the entire front two-thirds of their home — foyer, living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway, and first-floor bathroom. Demolition brought surprises: ceiling and roof framing that was dangerously under-built, and a floor out of level by up to three inches, both corrected before the true remodel could begin. The finished floor connects four rooms with improved flow, custom cabinetry throughout, a kitchen built for a serious cook, a fully rebuilt bathroom, and a restored dining-room built-in — the one original detail worth keeping.

The existing kitchen and adjacent rooms were extremely outdated, had narrow door openings between them, and the space was practically unusable. There was also a very small, strange bathroom tucked in off the kitchen down a very narrow hallway. Our clients bought this house over 20 years ago and had been renting it out. They were nearing retirement and wanted to retire in this house because of its location. Almost no work had been done on the house since it was built.

This project expanded a compact Craftsman home into a spacious two-story residence while preserving its original charm. The family needed more room for daily living, a functional kitchen, and additional storage—all without losing the home’s distinctive character. The remodel added a new kitchen and breakfast nook, a custom primary suite upstairs, and unique details like curved rooflines and a restored stained-glass window that tie the old and new seamlessly together.
